Office visits are scheduled to allow enough time to address your needs and concerns, and telephone calls are returned promptly. We take our responsibility for your well being seriously—our responsibility does not end when our office closes. We are available during regular office hours and can be contacted directly after hours for urgent medical issues.
We believe that caring for you before, during, and after an illness leads to a better understanding of your health, better care, and better outcomes. We see patients in our office, at Highland Park Hospital and Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, and at many local rehab facilities when needed. We are independent physicians, which allows us to refer patients to the best specialists, regardless of network affiliation. We take the time to coordinate care among our patients’ specialists and help our patients navigate the complex healthcare environment.

Mark A. Greenberger, MD
Mark A. Greenberger, MD
Mark A Greenberger, M.D. is board certified in Internal Medicine and has been practicing in Highland Park and Lake Forest since 1990. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Rush University Medical Center in 1989 and received his Doctor of Medicine at the University Of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago in 1986. He graduated from Colorado College in 1981 and Highland Park High School in 1977.
Dr. Greenberger completed his most recent term as Chief of the Department of Medicine at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital in 2016. He previously served as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine of Lake Forest Hospital.
Dr. Greenberger is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, Illinois State Medical Society, and Lake County Medical Society.
David A. Smiley, MD, FACP
David A. Smiley, MD, FACP
Dr. Smiley is board certified in Internal Medicine, practicing in Highland Park and Lake Forest since 2006. He graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Magna Cum Laude and received his Doctor of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed his internship and residency training through Northwestern University at Evanston Hospital.
Dr. Smiley is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, an honorary designation for his commitment to providing high quality care. He is also a member of the American Medical Association. He is a Senior Clinician Educator at University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and Health System Clinician at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Smiley served as Vice-Chief of the Department of Medicine at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital from 2012-2016 and Chief of Medicine at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital from 2016-2021.
Dr. Smiley is married and has three teenage children. He enjoys spending time with his family, and going on walks and bike rides.
